Despite a few recent losses, Juan Soto and the New York Yankees are absolutely crushing the competition this season. New York’s all-in move to land Soto in December is paying major dividends for a first-place Yankees team, but he’s only under contract for the rest of the season.

While MLB rules do allow in-season contract negotiations to take place, that isn’t in the superstar slugger’s plans as he prepares to hit the open market for the first time in his life.

With the Yankees currently facing their cross-town rivals in the Subway Series at Citi Field, Soto was asked if he’d ever sign with the New York Mets, who annually boast one of baseball’s largest payrolls. When asked, Soto didn’t exactly shoot down the idea.

“We will see,” Soto said when asked about the New York Mets potentially offering him a contract. “In the offseason we will figure it out. I’ll let [agent Scott Boras] do his thing. We’re going to see.”

As he said, Soto wants to let his agent handle his contract negotiations, but based on his comments, the three-time All-Star doesn’t have a specific preference on sticking with the Yankees or joining the other New York team that dons pinstripes.

While he may not know which team he’ll be playing for next season, what we do know is that he’ll sign one of the largest contracts in MLB history.
