As rumors of drafting Caleb Williams swirl, Chicago Bears drop highlight montage of Justin Fields

Will Justin Fields be replaced? The Chicago Bears have the No. 1 pick for the second year in a row. Only this time, they didn’t ‘earn’ it. Still, after tying for last place in the NFC North, there’s a sense that they could improve at quarterback, with Fields not developing as a passer as much as some would like.

This means that three years after selecting Fields 11th overall, the Bears could once again take another QB in the first round, and many expect USC’s Caleb Williams to hear his name called first. But what if the Bears did something few are anticipating and traded that top pick for another incredible draft haul? A peek at the Bears’ official social media pages on X, and you might get that same impression.

While rumors of the Chicago Bears being infatuated with Caleb Williams linger, here’s what was posted to the team’s official X account on Saturday morning.

Did you watch all 48 seconds of that? Are you sold that Fields is the Bears’ franchise quarterback yet? Yeah, me neither, and chances are, other NFL GMs aren’t buying it either.

After all, it’s not like NFL GMs take time to meet with their team’s social media manager and tell them to go make a highlight montage of Fields so we can throw other teams off their game. Then again, maybe that’s exactly what happened here, with the Bears trying to put out as many smokescreens as possible before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft on April 25.

Then again, what if the Bears, who recently interviewed USC’s senior offensive analyst Kliff Kingsbury for their offensive coordinator position, learned something about Williams that turned them away from the potential star QB?

We may not know until the night of the 2024 NFL Draft, but if the Bears are thinking of making trades again, we could see something take place at any point between now and late April when the three-day event kicks off. After all, last year the Bears traded down from No. 1 to No. 9 on March 10, well over a month before the 2023 NFL Draft began.

Should we read into this highlight montage? Probably not, but it still makes for a fun storyline leading up to the 2024 NFL offseason.
