Despite having a roster stacked full of talent, the Buffalo Bills keep coming up short in their quest to secure the first Super Bowl win in franchise history. Now, they have tough decisions to make ahead of free agency as they try to not only get back to the playoffs, but also find a way to emerge with a better roster at the start of the 2024 season.
Facing cap trouble, this means some of the familiar faces Bills Mafia has become so attached to could be on their way out. In fact, there’s already one former All-Pro who’s been handed his walking papers before free agency could even begin.
Buffalo Bills release Jordan Poyer to save cap space
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills are releasing Jordan Poyer so he can get an early chance to negotiate with teams in free agency. The transaction offers up to $5.7 million in cap savings, and Poyer was set to account for $7.5 million against the team’s cap number in 2024.
Now the 32-year-old safety enters free agency instead, with the Bills needing to find a new replacement for their former All-Pro talent. Micah Hyde’s contract was already set to expire, so now the Bills will have to replace their safety tandem before the 2024 season kicks off, yet there are plenty of free agents available.
