Variance in 2023 MLB Opening Day ticket prices is shocking

The prices for MLB Opening Day tickets in 2023 range from unsurprisingly expensive, to shockingly affordable for one of the most popular days in American sports.

MLB Opening Day is one of the most anticipated dates on the sports calendar each year. Baseball is America’s pastime, and while it may no longer be the most popular sport in the United States — or even the second most — opening day still holds a special place in the hearts of many sports fans.

On Thursday, the 2023 edition of the annual tradition goes down, and as one would expect, some tickets to attend MLB Opening Day games around the country have some pricey averages. However, there are ticket prices on the opposite end of the spectrum that show the continued divide between big-market and small-market franchises in the oldest professional sport in the United States.

On Thursday, Front Office Sports reported some details of average costs for MLB Opening Day tickets on secondary seat marketplace Ticket City. The average price for seats to today’s 15 season openers is $72. The most expensive ticket today will be for Los Angeles Dodgers fans with their season debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks going for an average cost of $155.

The cheapest ticket on March 30 will be for the Toronto Blue Jays interleague clash with the St. Louis Cardinals. Seats for the game at Busch Stadium have an average cost of $26 on Ticket City.

The second-most expensive MLB Opening Day ticket average will of course be in New York, for the Yankees’ April 6 home opener against the Baltimore Orioles. Average tickets for that game are currently at $150. However, the Yankees’ inner-city rivals the New York Mets will be a part of the cheapest average ticket for MLB Opening Day 2023. Brewers vs. Mets on April 3 has a shockingly low average of $17 per ticket.
