The Philadelphia Eagles committed long-term to Carson Wentz when they allowed former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to depart in free agency.
It would now seem that Philadelphia is looking to lock the 26-year-old former top pick up over the long term.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman noted that he would like to extend Wentz.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Wentz just recently became eligible for an extension. He joins the likes of Dak Prescott and Jared Goff as young quarterbacks who could receive huge paydays during the offseason.
Wentz’ situation is a bit different in that he missed the final three games of the 2017 season to a torn ACL. Wentz was also sidelined this past season to a back injury.
When on the field, the North Dakota State product has been tremendous. He’s posted a 23-17 record with 70 touchdowns and 28 interceptions in 40 career starts.
Any deal locking Wentz up long term would likely pay him $30-plus million annually — resetting the quarterback market as we know it.
