Jordan Matthews reportedly released by Patriots

The New England Patriots have reportedly released wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury that appears to be serious.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Matthews’ injury “is deemed to be significant.”

Originally a second-round pick out of Vanderbilt by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, Matthews has been a productive receiver over the course of his four-year career. He has caught 250 passes for 2,955 yards and 20 touchdowns, starting 43 games.

Last season he was placed on IR by the Buffalo Bills after playing in 10 games.

Matthews’ injury and subsequent release could mean the Patriots are seriously going to consider bringing in veteran receiver Eric Decker, who reportedly worked out for the team recently.
