Just over a week after he suffered a scary back injury that required spinal surgery, Ryan Shazier has been placed on the Reserve/Injured list by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Unfortunately Ryan will not be able to contribute on the field during the remainder of this season… however, even off the field Ryan will continue to be one of our team leaders,” team President, Art Rooney II said in a statement.
Shazier is reportedly making minor improvements following surgery, but his future is very much in question as nobody knows to what extent he might recover. The Steelers have rallied around him, demonstrably showing their support in various ways, along with other players around the NFL.
