Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders as he continues to recover from a concussion.
Both Kuechly and center Ryan Kalil (shoulder injury) traveled with the team with hopes of potentially playing in Week 13 against the Seattle Seahawks, per Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer.
Kuechly suffered his second bad concussion in as many years last Thursday against the New Orleans Saints. He broke down in tears while being carted off the field, a result of the concussion more than an emotional response to being injured, many have surmised.
He has been reportedly considering seeking a second opinion about what to do going forward as it pertains to his health. Additionally, head coach Ron Rivera said earlier this week that there is no known timetable for his return to action.
When healthy, Kuechly is among the best linebackers in the league, if not the best. He has the speed to catch just about anyone but the speediest receivers, has the instincts coaches dream about and is as dedicated to his craft as anyone in the business.
The Panthers will be hard pressed to win game No. 5 on the season without Kuechly in the lineup against the red hot Raiders, who have lost just twice this year.
