What a major blow this is going to be for the New York Yankees over both the short term and long term. General manager Brian Cashman broke some rather alarming news on Tuesday, indicating that ace starter Luis Severino will need to undergo Tommy John Surgery on his throwing arm.

This is obviously going to sideline the 26-year-old Severino for the duration of the 2020 MLB season. He pitched just three games for New York last season due to injury.

That came on the heels of the youngster pitching to a 19-8 record with a 3.39 ERA and 1.14 WHIP back in 2018.

It’s a good thing that the Yankees signed Gerrit Cole to a long-term deal this past winter. Even then, this is going to hurt the team big time in 2020.
