Earlier this week, two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion raced his nine-year-old son for the first time ever in a Micro Sprint race at Millbridge Speedway in North Carolina.
Dubbed ‘The Battle of the Busches,’ the elder led laps and finished two spots ahead of his son, but this was also the division debut for Brexton with Kyle having won the championship in the 600cc division last year.
Owen Larson, the 10-year-old son of 2021 Cup Series champion won his feature in the Restricted Micro class that Brexton raced in last year.
Does Kyle Larson anticipate racing his son anytime soon?
“I’m sure it will happen eventually but it’s not really on the radar yet,” the elder Larson said. “I’m sure it could happen next year or something. I don’t race Micros a lot as Kyle does. I run the bigger cars more. I’m sure it will happen in a Micro but I’m not racing Micros every week like he is but I’m sure it will happen once he starts racing Sprint Cars.”
Larson did make a rare appearance in the Tulsa Shootout in January in a Micro Sprint and delivered an instant classic race with Christopher Bell with the latter advocating that the former run these cars more.
