Despite what New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway might want us to believe, things are not going swimmingly for his team.
That was taken to a whole new level during Thursday’s matinee matchup with the Phillies in Philadelphia.
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the ninth and one out, Jean Segura took to the plate with two men on.
He proceeded to hit a three-run walk-off blast off Mets closer Edwin Diaz. Check the homer out in all of its glory.
Diaz took over with his Mets up 3-1 in the ninth. He allowed five runs in one-third of an inning. This came after New York put up three in the top half of the ninth to take the lead.
As clutch as Segura might have been, this is more indicative of the Mets’ wide-ranging struggles.
The team was just swept out of Philly in a four game set and is a season-low eight games under .500. Fun times, indeed.
