Vince Lombardi Sweater Sells for $43K

Pay 58 cents for a sweater at a thrift shop. Sell it for over $43,000. This is what happened to Sean and Rikki McEvoy after they took a closer look at their purchase.

The two ended up selling a pretty awesome piece of memorabilia in an auction in New York City. Details regarding the sweater are pretty neat. It was apparently from Lombardi’s West Point days. Of course this means that it’s from before Lombardi himself became famous as  the head coach of the Green Bay Packers.

I didn’t see the Lombardi tag when we walked out with it or I might have made a connection,” Sean McEvoy told ESPN.com. “My wife saw it but she didn’t know who that could be.”

That’s a nice little investment for the couple.

The hand-written letter from Muhammad Ali that requested a religious exemption to avoid being drafted into military service also sold for $334,000 at the auction.
