Titans sign S Kevin Byard to record-breaking $70 million extension

The Tennessee Titans are taking care of one of their best players ahead of training camp.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports that Tennessee has signed All-Pro safety Kevin Byard to a five-year, $70.5 million extension.

It makes Byard the highest-paid safety in NFL history, besting the contract Landon Collins signed with the Washington Redskins back in March.

Byard, 25, has more than earned this pay day. The former third-round pick has morphed into one of the best safeties in the game.

He earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2017, racking up 87 tackles, 16 passes defended and a league-high eight interceptions in the process.

While Byard’s numbers were not nearly as good last season, he remained a difference-maker in Tennessee’s defensive backfield. He’ll now be paid like it moving forward.
