The Carolina Panthers made the surprising move to fire longtime head coach Ron Rivera after almost nine seasons in that role.
Despite being in the midst of a four-game losing streak, no one could have predicted Carolina firing Rivera in the middle of the season.
It now looks like this could be part of a broader shake up for owner David Tepper and the Panthers.
According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, Carolina could target Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert for a top front office position in the offseason.
With the Steelers since 2000, Colbert’s contract will come to an end following the 2019 season. He has a built-in relationship with Tepper dating back to the new Panthers owner having a minority stake in the Steelers’ organization from 2009-18.
If this were to come to fruition, the Panthers would be adding one of the most respected personnel figures in the NFL. It’s certainly something to keep an eye on.
