Report: Sammy Watkins underwent second surgery on troublesome foot

Sammy Watkins

After missing most of the 2016 season due to an injured foot, Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins has reportedly undergone a second surgery to fix what ails him.

“Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins underwent a second foot surgery earlier this month, performed by specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, and is expected to be ready for training camp, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation,” writes Sal Capaccio of WGR 550.

Watkins broke his foot during the offseason. He initially denied there was anything seriously wrong. Then he underwent surgery before OTAs and minicamps, struggling to get back to the team during training camp. He worked his way onto the practice field, playing in the team’s first two games before re-aggravating the injury, catching six passes for 63 yards before being placed on IR.

After spending the requisite period of time on IR, Watkins made it back to play the final six games for the Bills, catching 22 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns in that final span.

When healthy, there is no doubt of Watkins’ value to Buffalo’s offense. A true deep threat who caught 15 touchdowns his first two seasons, he’s a player who can take it to pay dirt every time he touches the ball.

Thankfully for the Bills, Watkins is expected to be ready to return to action by training camp in 2017.
