Report: Pat Riley to File Trademark for “3-Peat”

Someone might want to tell Pat Riley, who is currently the president of the Miami Heat, that they won’t be the first NBA team to three-peat should they win the title next month. Even then, it probably wouldn’t stop the eccentric Riley from trademarking the term, which he is looking to do.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell…

Records with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office reveal that, last Thursday, an attorney representing Riley’s company, Riles & Co., filed a trademark to use the phrase “3-Peat” on jewelry, namely rings and sports memorabilia.

This actually makes a ton of business sense. By trademarking the term, Riley would benefit financially from any team in any sport deciding to put the term on a championship ring or other memorabilia.

Still, I couldn’t help but think of this…

At least he’s better in life than he is at dancing.
