Barring any setbacks, Edmonton Oilers star captain Connor McDavid is expected to play in Sunday night’s Heritage Classic against the visiting Calgary Flames, per a TSN report.
The reigning Hart Trophy winner has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury. He practiced with the Oilers on Saturday evening outdoors at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
McDavid, 26, initially was expected to miss one-to-two weeks with the injury he sustained last Saturday.
“It’s feeling good, I’m making a lot of progress,” McDavid told TSN on Saturday. “It felt really good today in practice, a lot of good signs.”
McDavid has two goals and six assists in six games this season.
McDavid led the NHL last season in goals (64), assists (89) and points (153) and played in all 82 regular-season games en route to picking up his third Hart Trophy.
