According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Geno Smith will be named the starting quarterback for the New Yorks Jets’ Week 7 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

This comes after starter Ryan Fitzpatrick navigated his way through a horrendous start to the season, throwing 11 interceptions in six games.
Smith should bring a spark to the Jets that they have needed after starting the season 1-5. Smith is a competent quarterback who could turn in his best season if given a shot under Chan Gailey’s simplified offense with legitimate targets to throw to in Quincy Enunwa and Brandon Marshall.
The fourth-year quarterback is in his contract season and would love to show what he’s made of. He was widely regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2013 NFL Draft but faltered under Rex Ryan. Smith should have a much better shot at producing in this run-heavy design.
If Chan Gailey can make Geno Smith look like a good quarterback again, he can put himself right up there with Norv Turner as a bit of a quarterback whisperer.
