Having not had a 100-yard rusher in a single game since Reggie Bush back in 2013, it goes without saying that the Detroit Lions are in desperate need for some help on the ground. The team has kicked the tires on multiple free agent running backs thus far this young offseason, and now appears to be closing in on a future Hall of Famer.
According to Mike Jones of USA Today, the Lions are close to signing veteran running back Frank Gore.
Source says RB Frank Gore and Detroit Lions close to reaching an agreement. Five-time Pro Bowler rushed for 961 yards (3.7 ypc) w three TDs for Colts last year. Will be 35 in May.

Gore, 34, is truly one of the most remarkable stories in recent NFL history. At a time when running backs rarely play well beyond the age of 30, he just continues to put up great season after great season. A five-time Pro Bowler, Gore tallied 1,206 total yards for the Indianapolis Colts in 2017. It represented the 12th consecutive season that Gore has put up 1,200-plus total yards. That’s an NFL record.
Whether Gore has a whole lot left in the tank remains to be seen. But it’s readily apparent that he will be an upgrade for a Lions team that ranked dead last on the ground last season.
