The Seattle Seahawks have put defensive end Michael Bennett up on the trade block, and the Atlanta Falcons are reportedly one of the teams looking into such a deal.
According to Vaugn McClure of ESPN, Atlanta is “one of multiple teams” discussing a trade for Bennett, though there is nothing imminent happening at this time.
Bennett has been one of the NFL’s most versatile defensive linemen for years, and he is coming off a solid year in which he started all 16 games for Seattle and tallied 8.5 sacks. Since landing with the Seahawks back in 2013, he’s racked up 39 sacks.
The big reason Seattle is trying to move Bennett is that he’s due to count $7.4 million against the team’s cap. That’s not an unreasonable amount for a player of his caliber, but the Seahawks have many other needs and little cap flexibility.
We’ve taken a look at five teams that should make a move for Bennett this offseason, though Atlanta was not one of the destinations we had in mind. Needless to say, there’s going to be plenty of interest in his services.
