Report: Brock Osweiler expected to start, Paxton Lynch still dealing with injury

Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch

The Denver Broncos would love to have Paxton Lynch starting Sunday against the Washington Redskins, but it’s not looking good. According to Mike Klis of 9News in Denver, Brock Osweiler is likely going to get the nod while Lynch continues to be hampered by a bum ankle.

“Osweiler is expected to start not because he deserved the promotion after he came off the bench and led the Broncos to a 25-13, come-from-behind win last week at Indianapolis,” Klis wrote. “He is expected to start because Paxton Lynch doesn’t appear quite healthy enough to play the bulk of a 60-minute game.”

Head coach Vance Joseph said earlier on Friday that the team would make a decision in the afternoon. But Klis reports no announcement has been made and players have gone home for the day already.

Lynch spent most of the season getting healthy following a shoulder injury this summer. Then when he did play, he was injured again in the team’s Week 12 game against the Oakland Raiders. When he was replaced in that game, Lynch was clearly emotional about the whole frustrating experience and shed some tears.

Before exiting that game, Lynch had a rough outing against Oakland, which intercepted its first pass of the year against him and held him to just 41 yards passing on 14 attempts.
