Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz was injured in the first inning of Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays and removed two innings later in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The team later labeled it as right hamstring tightness.
Diaz easily beat out an infield single leading off the home half of the first but pulled up and gingerly walked beyond the first-base bag.
He stayed in the game and scored on Isaac Paredes’ single but left in the top of the third for Tampa Bay, which has lost three of its top five pitchers in the rotation and Brandon Lowe (leg fracture) for the rest of 2023.
The team is also without regular center fielder Jose Siri (fractured hand) and starting shortstop Wander Franco (administrative leave).
Diaz, 32, is having a career year at the plate.
The All-Star leadoff hitter is batting .328 with 21 homers and 76 RBIs in 135 games.
