New York Knicks legend and Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball coach Patrick Ewing announced on Friday that he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Ewing, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and College Basketball Hall of Fame, released a statement revealing his diagnosis for COVID-19 and that he is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The 57-year-old shared the news to raise awareness about the dangers of the coronavirus and the serious nature of the pandemic that has swept across the country.

The No. 1 overall pick in 1985, Ewing spent 15 seasons with the Knicks and became one of the NBA’s all-time great centers. From 1985-2000, he made the All-NBA Second Team six times and his No. 33 was retired by the organization.

Ewing returned to his alma mater to become its head coach in 2017. The 11-time All-Star and former NCAA champion has recorded a 49-46 record during three seasons at Georgetown. This past season, the Hoyas posted a 15-17 record.

Fortunately, Ewing is the only member of the men’s basketball program to test positive for the coronavirus. We extend our wishes for health and a speedy recovery to Ewing.
