A new prediction from a top NFL Draft analyst claims the New York Giants will not only land an elite prospect in Round 1 of the event but also one of this year’s best quarterbacks.
The Giants have been quite busy over the last couple of weeks. They re-signed veteran receiver Darius Slayton. Made a couple of big additions to the secondary in Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo. And Big Blue made several other signings to try and bolster their roster for next season.
They still need to find their starting quarterback for 2025 and beyond. As well as add more impact players. The 2025 NFL Draft will be an opportunity to do both. The team will have the third overall pick next month, and using that selection on a badly needed QB would be a no-brainer. However, this year’s QB class is much weaker than 2024. Taking one of the top signal callers at three might be a reach.
That is probably why draft expert Todd McShay is predicting they go with the best player available in his new mock draft. However, he also expects the team to be bold and trade back into Round 1 to get one of the better quarterbacks available too.
Todd McShay predicts New York Giants get Travis Hunter and Jaxson Dart in Round 1 of the NFL Draft
The popular NFL Draft expert believes that the top two QBs in this year’s event — Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders — will be off the board in the first two picks. That is why he expects the organization will decide Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter will be their choice at No. 3.
“Brian Daboll still needs a quarterback (stay tuned for later in this mock), but once New York finds its passer, he will have a dangerous corps of targets in Malik Nabers, Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Hunter. This has the makings of a surprisingly fun offense.”
So who could be New York’s starting QB next season? They are working hard to sign future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson is also on their radar. However, McShay predicts they will trade their picks at 34, 65, and a 2026 third-rounder to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for the 19th overall. With that pick, they would take fast-rising Ole Miss prospect Jaxson Dart.
“While Giants fans may be agitated if Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are off the board before New York picks at three — making it the second year in a row that New York is unable to land one of the top quarterbacks in the draft — I would argue that this is the better outcome for the team,” he wrote. “I don’t think that the gap between Sanders and Dart is as large as many seem to think.”
