The New England Patriots struck gold last year by selecting Drake Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Nailing that draft selection put the Patriots on a path to be much more aggressive in free agency in 2025, where they kicked the process off by having the NFL’s most cap space.
Now, the Patriots head into the 2025 NFL Draft with far fewer needs than they started the offseason with. Yet, after a 4-13 season, there’s still plenty of room for improvement in New England. However, that doesn’t mean the Patriots don’t still have some highly coveted players other teams are trying to trade for.

Multiple NFL teams express trade interest in Joe Milton

The New England Patriots didn’t just select one quarterback prospect in last year’s draft. They actually selected two.
After plucking Drake Maye in the first round, the Patriots circled back and selected rocket-armed QB Joe Milton with the 193rd overall pick too. As expected, Milton spent most of his rookie season as a backup.
Yet, when the regular season came around and the Patriots had nothing to play for, they injected Milton into the starting lineup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 18. Teams were certainly watching closely, and Milton played well.
Milton completed 75.9% of his passes for 241 yards, a touchdown, and an interception while leading his team to victory over the Bills. While the Bills had several backups in the lineup, Milton made a strong impression.
Now, according to Mass Live’s Mark Daniels, the Patriots have “received multiple trade inquiries” for Milton.
“It remains to be seen if the Patriots will ultimately deal Milton. However, there does seem to be motivation on the player’s side to be moved. A source close to the quarterback said Milton would prefer to be on a roster that best gives him a chance to compete for the starting job.”

If the Patriots are worried about having a capable backup QB, they did sign Joshua Dobbs to a two-year, $8 million contract. Yet, Milton is much more affordable and signed for the next three seasons.
