Los Angeles Dodgers expected to make a splash at trade deadline

We’re closing in rapidly on the Aug. 1 MLB trade deadline, and the Los Angeles Dodgers have already made several trades, including adding Kike Hernandez, Amed Rosario, Lance Lynn, and more. But the latest trade rumors indicate Dave Roberts’ squad might not be done making moves.

Several within the baseball community are still expecting the Dodgers to make a big splash before the deadline passes. We’ve seen them tied to a trade for Justin Verlander and now that the New York Mets traded Max Scherzer, many anticipate Steve Cohen’s team to keep shedding payroll in a lost year. Verlander could be the next to go.

Other reports have the Dodgers chasing after St. Louis Cardinals All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado, but so far, indications suggest the ten-time Gold Glover may not be available since he’s still under contract through 2027.

If Arenado’s not an option, the Dodgers could look elsewhere to improve at the hot corner. As Jim Bowden of The Athletic notes, the Dodgers are “in the process” of swinging bigger trades, but it takes two to tango.

The Dodgers have plenty of enticing prospects to offer in negotiations, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they pulled off a trade similar to what the Texas Rangers did in the Max Scherzer deal, by offering to pay a hefty salary to sweeten the pot.

With the Dodgers three games ahead of their rivals in the National League West division, yet only playing .500 ball over their past ten games, strengthening the roster ahead of October would be wise while trying to keep pace with the NL-leading Atlanta Braves.
