Las Vegas Raiders superstar seems to pick a side in Josh Jacobs contract dispute

When it comes to the ongoing contract dispute between the Las Vegas Raiders and Josh Jacobs, teammate Davante Adams has been there and he hopes the team pays up because he knows the running back will play a massive role in any success they have in 2023.

Josh Jacobs has been a star for the Las Vegas Raiders since his first season in the league back in 2019. Aside from a down year two seasons ago, the former first-round pick has tallied over 1,000 rushing yards each year and hit a new peak in 2022 when he racked up over 2,000 all-purpose yards for the team.

It is unsurprising then that he was hoping to land a big-money long-term contract in free agency or from the team this offseason. Yet, neither has happened as they slapped the franchise tag on him in the spring, and the two sides have been unable to agree on a new contract since.

Now, the two sides are dug in and it is unclear if Jacobs will appear at Las Vegas Raiders training camp this summer.

Davante Adams ‘coaching’ Josh Jacobs through Las Vegas Raiders contract dispute

Six-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams was in a similar situation last year and it led to the Green Bay Packers trading him after eight seasons. Their loss was the Raiders’ gain, however, Adams hopes the situation can be worked out between Jacobs and the team. But he also understands Jacobs’ stance and will “coach” him through it because if they have any hope of reaching the playoffs they need the star running back in uniform.

“If we really want to have a shot at winning the Super Bowl and having all the elite aspirations that we do, we’re gonna need that guy,” Adams told NFL Total Access last week. “So I’m praying that we can still figure something out, but also understanding where Josh is coming from and trying to coach him through it at the same time.”

Jacobs is set to make $10.1 million from the Las Vegas Raiders if he plays on his franchise tag. Both he and Giants running back Saquon Barkley are in contract disputes with their team over not landing long-term deals and being forced to play on the tag.
