The Las Vegas Raiders’ search for a full-time head coach to replace Josh McDaniels will really get going later this week.
According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Vegas’ brass will sit down with former Minnesota Vikings head coach and longtime NFL defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Tuesday.
This is the Raiders’ first official interview. It’s interesting in that several reports indicate interim head coach Antonio Pierce is favored to land the job. In fact, a certain Raiders Pro Bowler has seemingly threatened to request a trade if Pierce is not promoted to the full-time gig.
As for Frazier, this will be the second interview that the veteran coach has been through during the current cycle. He completed an interview with the Los Angeles Chargers earlier on Sunday.
The 64-year-old Frazier posted a 21-32-1 record as the Vikings’ head coach from 2010-13. While that did not go too well for him, he has a vast amount of experience as a defensive coordinator as the NFL level.
Most recently, Frazier served as the Buffalo Bills’ defensive coordinator from 2017-22. He led a trio of top-three scoring defenses during that span.

Raiders owner Mark Davis is said to be going big-game hunting to find their next head coach. Frazier certainly wouldn’t qualify.
In addition to Pierce being seen as the favorite in Vegas, the team continues to be linked to Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh.
With all of that said, the process for finding a new head coach around the NFL includes several interviews. Whether Leslie Frazier is a legitimate candidate remains to be seen. He’s just the first one that’s going to make his way into the Las Vegas Raiders’ facility in the suburb of Henderson early this week.
