NBA star Kevin Durant inks lifetime endorsement contract with Nike

Boy, how things have changed for star hooper Kevin Durant since the Seattle Sonics made him the No. 2 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

In the 17 years since, Durant has enjoyed success with four different teams. He was part of the Sonics’ relocation from Seattle and rebranding as the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008. KD made waves by leaving the Thunder for the Golden State Warriors in 2016. He was just recently dealt from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns and is looking to win a third NBA title.

As all of this was happening on the court, Durant continued to maintain a relationship with Nike as a brand ambassador and pitch man. That has included 15 signature shoes and two big-time contracts with the apparel company. This relationship is not going to end any time soon, if at all.

Kevin Durant announced through Boardroom that he has signed a lifetime endorsement contract with Nike.

“When I first signed with Nike, I couldn’t have dreamed of how far we’d go in this partnership. We’ve done amazing work creatively and philanthropically. We’ve traveled the world together and built a business that will now last forever. I’m excited for the future and honored to be in rare company with this deal,”

Durant joins LeBron James as the only NBA player with a lifetime endorsement deal with Nike. James’ deal is said to be worth up to $1 billion. It is not yet known what Durant’s contract with Nike is.

Coming out of Texas back in 2007, Durant signed a seven-year, $60 million contract with Nike. Mere days before that was set to expire in August of 2014, he inked another deal with the worldwide juggernaut. That included up to $300 million over 10 years. Said contract was set to expire later in 2023.

In addition to Durant’s otherworldly career on the hardwood, he’s become a major power player off the court. The two-time NBA Finals MVP is said to be worth over $200 million. He continues to build that brand from coast-to-coast in the United States and extending overseas to both Europe and Asia. This new lifetime contract with Nike is the latest example of that.
