As the top-end free agents around the NBA continue to go off the market, D’Angelo Russell of the Brooklyn Nets becomes a major target.
Russell is technically a restricted free agent. But after Brooklyn added Kyrie Irving in free agency, he’s on his way out of town.
Among the teams interested in Russell, the Minnesota Timberwolves are confident they’ll land the All-Star point guard.
We can now include Wolves star Karl-Anthony Towns, who posted a not-so-cryptic message on Instagram.
This is obviously a reference to Russell’s Twitter handle, “Dloading.”
Towns and Russell apparently met over the weekend. The two are considered good friends.
All of this is taking place as another report suggested that Russell could land with the Golden State Warriors in a sign-and-trade for Kevin Durant, who has committed to signing with the Nets.
Meanwhile, Minnesota would have to clear cap space to bring Russell in. That includes moving the bloated contract of one Andrew Wiggins.
Could a potential three-team trade be in the works between Brooklyn, Minnesota and Golden State? Rumors suggest it’s possible with Durant heading to the Nets, Russell making his way to Minnesota and Wiggins replacing Durant on the Warriors.
Stay tuned. Things are about to hit the fan here soon.
