Back in December, a former Jacksonville Jaguars employee was charged with stealing over $22 million in funds from the organization he once worked for. The employee, Amit Patel, reportedly stole the money across a four-year time period while manipulating the team’s virtual credit program.

Part of that money was allegedly used to place bets with various sports books, including the likes of FanDuel. Now, the Jaguars are trying to do something about it.

This is a new one. According to ESPN, the Jacksonville Jaguars have asked FanDuel to reimburse some or all of the estimated $20 million lost by a former employee while gambling on the website. However, and this will probably be a shocking revelation, but FanDuel, believe it or not, doesn’t want to pay back the money.

While discussions between the Jaguars and FanDuel could lead to an eventual settlement, sources don’t expect much remorse from FanDuel.

“The way they see it … we got this money fair and clear. It’s not our problem that we have to forfeit it back to you. I would be gobsmacked if it happened.”

Later, a ‘veteran daily fantasy player’ called Patel “The biggest loser ever on FanDuel. He was legendarily bad.”

Meanwhile, the former employee, Amit Patel, has since pleaded guilty for stealing over $20 million.

Now, imagine if the situation were reversed. Say this former Jaguars employee managed to win several million dollars while placing bets at FanDuel. Would the Jaguars go out of their way to try and help the betting company recover their money? Probably not.

So why do they expect FanDuel to suddenly play nice, with a massive sum of money? We all have dreams, and some are bigger than others. But for the Jaguars, this is aiming for the moon without even having a spacesuit. Good luck with that endeavor.
