Gallery: Worst First Pitches in Baseball History

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s disastrous first pitch at the New York Mets game last night got us thinking. Was it the worst ceremonial first pitch in the history of baseball? 50 Cent might have been booed, but there are some other equally horrible first pitches out there. Let’s take a look at 10 of them.

10. Justin Bieber, “Singer”

It’s not that Beiber’s first pitch was all that bad. Instead, do you notice him continually having to hold up his pants on his way to the bump? As someone who saw this for the first time live, I honestly thought he was going to take the mound with only tidy whities on.

9. Charlie Brown, Cartoon Character

Charlie Brown always believed Lucy thought he was “the most stupid person alive.” Throwing out this first pitch at a Phillies game a few years back, the Peanuts character didn’t do himself any favors in winning her over.

8.  Trent Edwards, NFL “Quarterback”

What do we have here? A former starting quarterback who couldn’t cut it in the NFL attempting to take the mound for a ceremonial first pitch. The problem here is that everyone watching this knew Edwards was going to throw out a joke of a first pitch. Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson would be ashamed.

7. Carly Rae Jepsen, Singer

You just felt bad for her here. If you believe the announcers, Rae Jepsen was actually throwing strikes earlier in the evening. Maybe the large crowd at Tropicana Field proved to be too much pressure for the former Canadian Idol participant. Then again, maybe not.

6. 50 Cent, Singer

Curtis Jackson (AKA 50 Cent) must be happy that he found a calling in the music business because his ability to throw a baseball rivals Roseanne’s success singing the National Anthem. It was that bad. For Jackson’s sake, let’s hope he never has to throw one out in Philadelphia. That wouldn’t end too well.

5. Mariah Carey, Singer

Did Mariah’s hips get in the way here? In any event, the pitch might have been bad, but I am sure every guy and some women out there wouldn’t mind watching this video on a never-ending loop.

4. Carl Lewis, Former Olympian

He wanted a do over. Do you blame him? That had to be embarrassing for a man that absolutely dominated on the world stage during his time as a track and field super star. Do you even lift, bro?

3. Ba Ba Booey, Radio Personality

Just imagine the crap that Howard Stern gave Ba Ba Booey after this joke of a first pitch. I am pretty sure that it included some “family friendly” references to his manhood, or lack thereof. Ba Ba, you brought this on yourself.

2. Mark Mallory, Former Cincinnati Mayor

Just look at the utter confusion on Eric Davis’ face. He had absolutely no idea where the ball ended up or what Mallory was attempting to do prior to throwing the pitch. He looked like a really bad version of Elaine from “Seinfeld” dancing prior to throwing it.

1. Shawn Johnson, Olympic Gymnast

Under five-feet tall and weighing only 90 pounds, it was going to take an effort for Johnson to actually throw a baseball the required distance to home plate. The hope was, at least, that she might make it more than about four feet before the ball bounced off the ground. Her only saving grace here is that the camera man did an equally terrible job recording the dumpster fire of a first pitch.
