Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb went on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia on Tuesday and indicated that current Eagles starter Nick Foles isn’t a franchise quarterback (h/t USA Today).
I really can’t answer that at this particular point, but if I had to give a take, I would say no,” McNabb said on 97.5 The Fanatic when asked if he thinks Foles is a franchise QB. “I think what he will do, he won’t do what he did last year, that just won’t happen. I see him more being a 25 touchdown, maybe 8, maybe 10 interception guy.
Foles is coming off a 2013 campaign that saw him tally 30 total touchdowns compared to two interceptions while leading the Eagles to a 8-2 record in 10 starts. For comparison’s sake, McNabb tallied 30-plus touchdown passes just once in his 11-year career in Philadelphia.
While no one expects Foles to match the ridiculous season he had in 2013 this upcoming season, it’s way too early to determine whether he is a franchise signal caller. At the very least, McNabb acknowledged this when posed with a premature question about Foles future as the potential face of the Eagles’ franchise.
With just 10 starts under his belt and coming off a playoff appearance, Foles has a lot to prove in 2014. Another stellar campaign from him, and there is a strong likelihood that Foles will be paid like that franchise guy.
