Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is set to become a free agent following the 2014 season. He also understands full well that the Cowboys will slap the franchise tag on him should the two sides not come to an agreement on a long-term extension this year.
This had led the Pro Bowl receiver to indicate publicly that he wants a contract done as soon as possible (h/t Pro Football Talk).
I want to get it done ASAP.
Surely getting Bryant locked up would be a good move for a Cowboys team that just recently signed Tyron Smith to a long-term extension. The former first-round pick has put up 2,600 yards and 25 touchdowns in the last two seasons.
Fair market value for Bryant would likely be about $15 million per season, which is directly below Calvin Johnson among wide receivers. It just remains to be seen if the Cowboys have that in the bank after giving Smith $97.6 million ($22.1 guaranteed) over eight years this past offseason.
