In a less-than-surprising move, the Denver Nuggets have fired head coach Brian Shaw. The team is currently 20-39 on the season and simply hasn’t played inspired basketball this season. That came to a head recently when it was reported that players are breaking team huddles with a countdown to the end of the season.
Definitely not a good sign.
Including this season, Shaw was a disappointing 29 games under .500 since taking over the job from George Karl last year. This came on the heels of 10 consecutive playoff appearances for the organization.
Shaw’s cause wasn’t helped when Denver’s brass decided to blow the whole thing up during the trade deadline, but it’s safe to say that he was an utter failure in Colorado.
If Shaw was indeed losing the squad, this was an obvious move for the fledgling Nuggets team.
It remains to be seen who will take over on a long-term basis, but assistantĀ Melvin Hunt will take over for the remainder of the year on an interim basis.
Among the names mentioned as a possibility isĀ Mike D’Antoni, who most recently coached the Los Angeles Lakers after heading both the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks.
