Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott couldn’t possibly be in a better situation. He’s starting for a first-place team with the best record in the NFL and playing alongside some of the most-talented offensive players in the NFL. There’s no real reason for Prescott himself to be upset, right?
Well, that most definitely wasn’t the case when the Mississippi State product didn’t hear his name called during the first two days of the 2016 NFL Draft. Prescott was upset. He was “pissed” over the perceived slight.
“It woke me up on Saturday a little anxious and a little pissed,” Prescott said, via Pro Football Talk.
In reality, Prescott falling all the way to the Cowboys on Day 3 was his own fault. The youngster was arrested on DUI charges less than two months before the draft, at which point teams became concerned over his character. And while the quarterback was eventually found not-guilty on the charges, it surely did play a role in his stock plummeting to the mid rounds.
Now, months after taking over the starting job in Dallas, Prescott doesn’t seem to be too upset anymore. In fact, the life-long Cowboys fan is pretty darn happy about his situation.
“My dad was a diehard Cowboys fan,” Prescott said. “I was raised as a Cowboy fan, and I was forced to be a Cowboy fan. In the yard, I was always Emmitt Smith, imagining wearing that 22 on my chest … Dad was too excited, too pumped. He comes out and pulls out all of his jerseys of older Cowboys that he has. Now, it’s him wearing my jersey every Sunday.”
As it relates to issues regarding Prescott’s character, that can pretty much be thrown out the window. Just recently, a former trainer for Tom Brady compared the rookie to the New England Patriots’ future Hall of Fame.
Through the first 11 games of his rookie season, Prescott has led the league’s best football team and third-best scoring offense. He’s also tallied 23 total touchdowns compared to two interceptions en route to being considered a potential MVP candidate.
Yeah, falling to the fourth round didn’t turn out too bad for this young man.
