Pro Bowler punter Pat McAfee of the Indianapolis Colts has announced his retirement from the National Football League at the young age of 29.
The announcement came from McAfee himself late Wednesday evening on Twitter.

That’s stunning news in and of itself. However, the more interesting news here is that McAfee decided to step away from the game of football to join the growing media website Barstool Sports. No, really. Barstool is known for its oftentimes adult-themed content and has been the subject of criticism from the mainstream sports media world in the past.
This comes mere hours after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had to answer questions about whether the league pulled Barstool’s media credentials for Super Bowl LI (via Pro Football Talk).
Back to McAfee himself. The now former Indianapolis Colts punter is coming off a Pro Bowl performance in 2016 and seemingly had another decade or so of good play left in him. In his retirement announcement, McAffee also pointed to multiple lower-body surgeries as a reason why he’s stepping away from the game.
