Nobody has caught more games for the 2018 Boston Red Sox than Christian Vazquez. But for the time being, Boston will look elsewhere behind the plate.
The Red Sox backstop will miss the next 6-8 weeks as he recovers from a fractured finger.
Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez to have surgery tomorrow to insert a pin into his fractured finger. Is expected to be out 6-8 weeks. Alex Cora said he is comfortable with Sandy Leon and Blake Swihart.

Vazquez has caught 58 of Boston’s 91 games. Certainly, hitting isn’t the strength of Vazquez’s game, as he’s hit .213/.249/.300 with only three home runs on the season.
Sandy Leon, meanwhile, has hit .250/.292/.391 with four home runs, while Blake Swihart has yet to hit a home run and has struggled to a .185/.250/.210 line.
The Red Sox entered Monday with the league’s best record, but are only two games up on the New York Yankees in the American League East. As such, they’re certainly hoping for a speedy recovery from their catcher.
