Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald won’t commit to playing next season

Larry Fitzgerald

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is in the midst of what will likely be his ninth career 1,000-yard receiving season. He’s doing this at the age of 34 and with the likes of Blaine Gabbert and Drew Stanton tossing him the rock. That’s some amazing stuff.

Despite this, Fitzgerald is still not ready to commit to playing beyond this season.

It’s interesting that the future Hall of Famer would make such a comment, especially after he signed an extension with Arizona back in November.

Even then, Fitzgerald has already made it clear he won’t give us a warning when it comes to his retirement. That could play a role in the comments he made Thursday.

With two games left in a season that has seen the Cardinals post a 6-8 record, maybe Fitzgerald wants to see what the team’s plans are for the offseason before committing to next season. While he’s still playing at a high level, returning to a team that might be in the midst of a rebuild doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
