The Houston Astros called up right-hander Ronel Blanco to start Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians.
He has a tough act to follow after Framber Valdez fired a no-hitter for Houston on Tuesday.
Blanco, 29, made 15 appearances (six starts) with the Astros earlier this season, going 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA. In his six starts, he had a 4.76 ERA. In 22 appearances over two major league seasons, Blanco has a 4.99 ERA.
To make room on the active roster, left-hander Matt Gage was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. Gage, 30, had a 2.70 ERA in five relief appearances and has a 1.83 ERA in 16 career relief appearances after making his debut with the Toronto Blue Jays last season.
