We’re finally less than a month away from the kickoff of the 2024 NFL Draft, and there are still plenty of unknowns. The Chicago Bears are locked in on Caleb Williams at No. 1, but everything else is a crapshoot, including the Arizona Cardinals, who don’t even have an urgent need for a quarterback.
The early assumption is that Washington and New England won’t be able to resist the temptation to select a potential franchise QB at No. 2 and 3, but the Cardinals at 4? It’s a whole new ballgame here.
With Kyler Murray locked in through 2028, as mentioned, the Cardinals don’t need a QB, but there could be several other teams who want to make sure they don’t miss out on their top prospect. While the Cardinals could very well feel the same way about losing out on someone like Marvin Harrison Jr., the chance of strengthening the roster by adding valuable draft capital could be far more enticing.
Yet, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, there are multiple teams who view the Cardinals as a “prime candidate” to trade down from the fourth overall pick. It was an idea he previously discussed on ‘The Pat McAfee Show‘, but now the rumors are heating up with official reports hinting at such a move.
The Cardinals also hold the 27th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, so they already have a bit of extra ammo that many others can’t compare to. Yet, if a team makes another offer too good to refuse, it’s very possible Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort takes that option again, much like he did last year, trading out of the third pick to allow the Houston Texans to add Will Anderson Jr.
Will history repeat itself in Arizona? We’re just under a month away from finding out.
