The 2020 Major League Baseball season remains very much up in the air. It’s not as much about the ongoing pandemic in the United States as it is about the almighty dollar.
MLB owners sent a financial proposal to the players just recently. To say the players were not too happy about taking further pay cuts from their already prorated salaries would be an understatement.
Now comes this report from Jon Heyman of MLB Network indicating that some players don’t even think the initial proposal is worth countering.
The insider noted earlier on Wednesday that “scores” of players were “galvanized” in their disdain for MLB’s original economic offer.
At this point, the finances will likely act as more of a detriment than anything pandemic related. This comes at the same time that the NHL has set forth a plan to continue its season and with the NBA nearing a plan of its own.
Needless to say, the absence of baseball this summer and fall would be a major black eye for both the owners and players.
The hope is still that something can get done. Unfortunately, things are not looking great in that regard.
