WATCH: 49ers’ Fred Warner picks Patrick Mahomes’ pocket with key interception

The San Francisco 49ers went up 13-10 early in the third quarter of Super Bowl LIV. Then, linebacker Fred Warner picked Patrick Mahomes’ pocket on the Kansas City Chiefs’ next drive.

This was an absolutely momentous play in the game. Here’s the replay of Warner, who dropped into zone coverage underneath and read Mahomes’ eyes like a book, coming up with the huge interception for the 49ers.

Mahomes had been making exceptional decisions before this. However, he nearly lost a fumble when Nick Bosa stripped him on this same drive and perhaps was a bit rattled because of it. That’s not something we can say about this young quarterback very often.
