Report: Anthony Davis turns down Lakers’ max-contract extension offer

Anthony Davis contract

The Los Angeles Lakers took a shot at the impossible Tuesday morning by offering star big man Anthony Davis a max contract extension.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, said offer included $146 million over four seasons. Davis turned down the offer.

It’s not necessarily that big of a surprise. Davis holds a $28.6 million option for next season, an option he’s going to turn down. It’s just a formality.

Once the All-Star big man enters free agency in July, Davis will be eligible to sign a five-year, $202 million deal. That’s a difference of $56 million, and is the reason he made this decision.

Davis and his Lakers head into Tuesday’s action with a Western Conference best 29-7 record. He’s averaging 27.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks per game in his first season in Los Angeles.
