When Chip Kelly took over the UCLA football program two years ago, many figured the Bruins were going to take off under his guidance. That hasn’t happened, however, and there is reportedly some concern about the direction of the program.
Per Scott Roussel of FootballScoop.com, “there is concern within the building about the direction of the UCLA program and who will be leading it into the future.”
Roussel reported Friday that Kelly and UCLA administrators met for “multiple meetings this week” over the program’s future and direction. And after those meetings, he reports “the potential exists for a more significant change than anyone anticipated.”
If the university opted to fire Kelly, it would owe him roughly $9 million in a buyout. The former NFL head coach who gained national fame for his work with the Oregon Ducks previously has gone 7-16 at UCLA, including 7-10 in the Pac-12.
