DeMarcus Cousins was ‘ready to quit’ after tearing quad

DeMarcus Cousins injury

Golden State Warriors forward DeMarcus Cousins is back in action and looking strong in the NBA Finals, but he very nearly threw in the towel after tearing his quad in the first round of the playoffs.

Opening up to Rachel Nichols of ESPN, Cousins said he was “just ready to quit. Like, throw the towel in” after that devastating injury.

Cousins said he went through “tedious work” to overcome the injury, and admitted some days he felt like the rehab was not worth it: “The physical part wasn’t the hard part. It’s everything mental that comes with it,” Cousins said.

The Warriors star said it took some soul searching and had to dig deep to find the wherewithal to overcome.

Cousins’ torn quad wasn’t the first major injury he suffered recently, of course. The torn Achilles he came back from was a huge hurdle to overcome. So, it’s natural that he would have doubts about coming back from a second devastating injury.

The Warriors have to be thankful he did come back. Cousins was a major factor in Game 2 and a big reason the Warriors came back home for Game 3 tied up at 1-1 against the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals.
