NBA rumors: Pelicans and Lakers in talks about Anthony Davis

The NBA’s news cycle is fast and furious ahead of next week’s trade deadline. Earlier on Thursday, it was reported that the New Orleans Pelicans were not taking calls from the Los Angeles Lakers for star center Anthony Davis.

All the while, Pelicans GM Dell Demps was talking to other teams about the face of the franchise. This comes on the heels of Davis publicly requesting a trade from New Orleans — something that cost his wallet a cool $50,000.

Now, according to this report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pelicans and Lakers have had discussions about Davis. Equally as important, the two sides are expected to engage one another ahead of the Feb. 7 trade deadline.

It’s been noted that any deal sending Davis to Southern California would have to include Lonzo Ball heading the other way.

Though, Ball himself does not want to play in New Orleans. The likes of Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram will also be bandied about in trade talks.

While it’s unlikely that Davis will be moved ahead of the deadline, communication between the Lakers and Pelicans is no small thing.
