Doug Marrone: Jags not considering going back to Blake Bortles

As if the signs weren’t clear enough that Blake Bortles won’t be with the Jacksonville Jaguars next year, head coach Doug Marrone gave us more evidence on Friday.

Speaking to reporters in a teleconference call, Marrone said he’s not considering re-inserting Bortles into the starting lineup for Cody Kessler, per Michael DiRocco of ESPN.

This is pretty significant, because in his two starts Kessler has led a grand total of one touchdown-scoring drive.

There’s no clearer way — aside from coming out and saying it — that Bortles’ time as a starter in Jacksonville is done.

Honestly, it’s too bad because this realization by Jacksonville is a year too late. The team not only decided not to draft a quarterback this past year but opted not to bring in any of the qualified franchise passers. Namely, neither Alex Smith nor Kirk Cousins were considered. And to top it all off, Bortles got a contract extension, to boot.

Needless to say, the Jags are experiencing some buyer’s remorse at this point.
