For more than 30 years now, replacement players from the 1987 Washington Redskins Super Bowl championship team have not had a Super Bowl ring to mark the accomplishment. That will change shortly.
From Weeks 3-6 of the 1987 season, the regular NFL players were on strike. Week 3’s games were not played, but replacement players were used from Weeks 4-6. Washington’s replacements went 3-0, helping the team eventually finish the year at 11-4. At some point in 2018, they’ll be rewarded with Super Bowl rings.
“Their contributions are part of #Redskins history and represent an integral reason why a Lombardi Trophy from the 1987 campaign resides in our facility today."

One of the three wins from the replacement players was especially significant. In Week 6 against the rival Dallas Cowboys, the Redskins’ replacement players lined up against a Cowboys team that had many of its top regular stars back in action after crossing the picket line. Washington went on the road and upset Dallas 13-7.
The Redskins won the NFC East. In the NFC Playoffs, Washington upended the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. The championship was capped off with a 42-10 blowout of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII.
