Josh Jackson rose from backup last season to an All-American in 2017, and the Iowa cornerback is now headed to the NFL.
The junior announced his decision on Instagram, thanking the coaching staff and fans for their support.
“Growing up, it has always been my dream to play in the National Football League. I am excited for the next step and humbled by this great opportunity. I will always bleed Black and Gold. Thank you Hawkeye Nation!”
Jackson led the Football Bowl Subdivision with eight interceptions this season and returned two for touchdowns. He broke up 18 attempts to finish 2017 with a nation-best 26 pass defenses, also registering 46 tackles on the year and a forced fumble.
In addition to first-team AP All-America honors, Jackson was a finalist for the Thorpe Award — the top honor for college defensive backs.
The 6’1″ corner is likely to hear his name called in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. Even if that doesn’t happen, it’s improbable Jackson will remain on the board through the second round.
